Customize to create your own unique scent! |
Earlier this month Pink Zebra made the announcement that there was going to be a brand new product category. I'm not sure if you knew this, but last season we had lotions and soaps...and then they discounted them like crazy and POOF! they were gone and didn't return with the fall catalog like I had hoped they would.
Until now.
In order for me to help you understand where I'm coming from, I need to give you a little history on me. I'm a person with very sensitive skin. Very sensitive. Also very dry--like desert dry. I'm always itchy, and ashy; I've been this way my entire life. I think I have about 487,682,159,235 bottles of lotion in my apartment. I have boxes full, under my sink is full, I have a plastic bin shelf that has a few bottles in it. And I've never not even once been able to finish an entire bottle. Maybe this will sound familiar to you as well: you scour the beauty section for lotions with phrases like, "extra moisturizing!" and "for sensitive, dry skin!" Only to use it MAYBE a handful of times before forgetting about it. Or you absolutely love the way it smells, but it burns your freshly shaven legs and once the lotion dries, your skin is no softer than it was before it was applied. This has been my lifelong struggle, and the struggle is real.
So when it was revealed that the new product category for Pink Zebra was customizable lotion, I was excited, but kind of disappointed at the same time. However, I've been trying to be more positive about things, so I gave it an honest try and I'm glad I did because it's pretty great. What makes it so great that I have decided to chuck all of my previous lotions and only use this kind? Is it because I'm a consultant for PZ and therefore have to? No. I would not put my skin through torture if I didn't have to. I use it because it doesn't irritate my skin. At all. On the contrary, it makes my skin feel amazing and get this---it actually moisturizes it and keeps it that way *gasp!* It performs just like the old lotions did with the exception of having a slightly thicker consistency.
What's in it?
Since there are two parts to this lotion: the unscented lotion itself, and the Soaks, I will first talk about what is in the lotion.
There are several ingredients in the unscented lotion that work together to deliver to you what I can only describe as 'silk in a bottle.' First there are these things called "humectants" made from a mixture of olive oil and glycerin to attract and trap moisture on the outer skin layer. This is different from other lotions that typically use a combination of a petroleum-derived propylene glycol which can be irritating to the skin (that partially solves the mystery of my own skin irritant problems).
Next are the emollients which smooth out rough skin cells. Last, it includes occlusive agents that come mostly from plant oils, as well as coconut oil, avocado oil, and aloe!
Now...what about the Soaks? Is something that is used in reed diffusers and squirted on air fresheners really safe to put on your skin? The answer is yes---in this case anyway. Pink Zebra has been issued a certificate from fragrance blenders regulated by the IFRA (International Fragrance Association) declaring the safety of the Soaks for use on skin. However, even though they have been deemed hypoallergenic, that doesn't mean that every single person who uses it will skate by without a reaction. You should always test skin products on a small patch of skin first just to make sure.
Now that you know a little more about the Soaks Lotion than you did before reading this post, what are your thoughts? Do you like the idea of being able to customize the scent of your lotion to create something uniquely you? Comment below! Thank you for reading!
